Maze Runner: The Death Cure (also known simply as The Death Cure) is an upcoming American dystopian science-fictionaction thriller film directed by Wes Ball, based on The Death Cure, the final book in The Maze Runner trilogy, written by James Dashner. The screenplay was written by T.S. Nowlin. It is the sequel to Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (2015) and the third and final installment in the Maze Runner film series.
Maze Runner: The Death Cure was originally set to be released on February 17, 2017, in the United States by 20th Century Fox, but the studio rescheduled the film for January 26, 2018 in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D, allowing time for Dylan O'Brien to fully recover from his injuries sustained during filming.
